Microsoft has upgraded their Phone Link and Link to Windows apps to make sending files between Windows computers and Android phones easier. These apps now let you share files directly through the sharing menus on your devices, making it as convenient as using Apple’s AirDrop. This makes transferring files faster and more user-friendly.
Simplified File Transfer Process
File transfer between PC and Android is now easier. On your PC, right-click a file and select “Share” > “Phone Link” to transfer it. You can check the transfer status in Windows notifications. To transfer files from Android to PC, tap “Share,” then “Link to Windows – Send to PC,” and select your PC. Once the transfer is done, the file will be marked as “Sent.”
To use the new file-sharing feature
Windows devices should update the Phone Link app to version 1.24032.156.0 or higher and ensure their Windows is at least updated to Windows 10 2019.
Android devices: Update the Link to Windows app to version 1.24032.518.0 or higher, and ensure your Android device runs on Android OS 9.0 or later.
Enhanced Integration with Windows Start Menu
With the new Phone Link feature seamlessly merged into the Windows Start menu, users can effortlessly access messages, calls, and photos from their connected devices. This integration streamlines the user experience by consolidating important communication channels under “Companions” in the Start menu, making it easy to stay connected and access relevant content with minimal effort.
